Sam Shorter shines in Ruby's S/S campaign

I'm absolutely loving kiwi girl, Sam Shorter, in Ruby's new S/S 2011-12 campaign! Sam absolutely shines in Ruby's beautiful new season threads. In case you're not familiar with Sam Shorter, she is one of New Zealand's most in demand models. She's modeled for two of my favourite kiwi brands (Karen Walker and Ruby) and walked in an amazing twenty shows in last years NZ fashion week! For more of Sam click here.

P.S More of Ruby's new campaign to come!

The Avant/Garde Diaries

Earlier this month Berlin hosted a festival of innovation called 'The Avant/Garde Diaries'. Eleven artists contributed to one exhibition that set out to define what our society considers to be ahead of it's time or Avant-Garde. This is one exhibition that I honestly wish I could have been there to see! It looks like it was just absolutely mind blowing.

Not only does the exhibition itself look amazing, but the people that went to the exhibition too, are something to look at in themselves. I love the fact that fashionable people are always attracted to all things avant-garde, and this is shown in the fact that many photographers had a heck of a time taking the most amazing street style photos at the exhibition. Above are some of my favourites.

Monday's must have: High heeled loafers

So even-though Monday has been and gone, I still really wanted to share the Monday's must have that I had planned for this week. So here goes...

I am absolutely loving loafers at the moment, and the only thing better than loafers are high heeled loafers! I love the cute and affordable styles above from ASOS. These babies will add a bit of flair to any outfit.

High heeled loafers are great for those of you who are a little heel-shy. They still do the trick of elongating the leg, however they tend to look a bit more sensible and conservative than an eight inch pair of Jimmy Choos. Wear a classic black or brown style for something more conservative. Or for the more daring amongst us, try a multi-tone style or a style in a bright colour.

Stella McCartney Resort 2012

After a glamorous, high-tea evening in heels and a pretty dress last night (so much fun by the way!), I am well and truly ready to go back to comfortable boyish fashion for a bit. I am loving Stella McCartney's 2012 Resort collection. It actually reminds me a lot of Karen Walker's amazing S/S collection that I shared a few weeks ago.

Above are my favourite looks from this collection. I'm loving the structured blazers in a variety of colours, and the fun Hawaiian inspired prints. The full collection can be viewed here. Loveeeee!

What to wear this weekend: Lady-like ensembles

As much as I love wearing boy-like chino's and dress shirts, this weekend I am loving on elegant, lady-like pieces. It may be because I am going to a ladies high-tea evening tonight (still having trouble deciding what to wear!), or it may be because I'm still very much being inspired by the 1950's images from my last post; But right now I'm feeling very inspired to channel my inner femme.

Think costume jewellery, classic style heels, and beautifully cut dresses. Look to the beautiful Alexa Chung for inspiration.

Inspiration Thursday: Suzy Parker

Suzy Parker was one of the worlds first super models in the 1950's. She was the epitome of the classic, elegant 1950's lady. Don't you just love how absolutely stunning she looks in the new Dior. LOVEEEE.

Christophe Lemaire S/S 2011

This collection reminds me a lot of pyjamas... in the best possible way! After reviving both Lacoste and Herme`s, this is Christophe Lemaire's debut collection for his own label.

Above are my favourite pieces from this collection - the whites. I just find them so elegant and classic and AMAZING. The first look is my absolute favourite - it definitely looks like it could be something straight out of the pages of a 1992 edition of vogue (ha ha).

If I had a lot of money (as if!), and if I was looking for a few quality investment pieces, I would definitely look to this collection. You can just tell by looking at these pieces that they are made to last, and the classic cut of them means that they will transcend many seasons.

Lemaire's men's collection is pretty much the same as the women's, which I love. It takes on the same classic tailoring with a slight Japanese influence. For more Of Christophe Lemaire check out his website.

Cake - Issue #3

Something pretty to remind us all in the southern hemisphere that spring will be here soon enough.

P.s I did not end up getting anything from the Ruby Boutique sale the other day due to a sudden lack of funds. *Cries* But I do plan to go back very soon (on payday!). Did anybody else get anything?

Monday's must have: A pretty fan

So right now it's about ten degrees in New Zealand so needless to day, I do not need any help cooling down! However, with summer in mind, I am definitely going to start shopping around for a cute vintage fan very soon.

Fans are set to be one of summers hottest (and most practical!) high fashion accessories. Designer fans have been spotted in the front row of many of last weeks NY Couture shows, as well as on the runway. Yay for practical fashion!

Japanese style, vintage lace, fur lined - anything goes! Find your favourite in a local thrift store and get ready for the warmer months - or if you are lucky enough to be in the northern hemisphere right now, start fanning a.s.a.p!

Chanel Spring 2011 Couture

I'm not usually one for couture solely due to the fact that I know I will never, EVER be able to afford it, so I don't even bother looking at it! However, I stumbled across Chanel's Spring '11 couture collection the other day [in Australian Vogue] and absolutely fell in love with it!

Inspired by ballet, this collection manages to bring couture into the 21st century, displaying a more casual elegance scarcely seen in the couture industry. I love the fact that this collection allows the models to be seen as what they are - young girls - instead of turning them into the wise beyond their years, vixens, that many other couture designers make them out to be.

I also love how light this collection is. Some of these pieces literally look weightless! Not to mention the shoes! Oh myyyyy. They are amazingly beautiful and I am in loveeee. If I had many thousands of dollars and a ball to go to, there is no doubt in mind mind that I would be doing everything I could to get my grubby little mitts on some of these amazing pieces. *Drools*
